Lost on the Spiritual Path

You may tell the greatest lies and wear a brilliant disguise, but you can’t escape the eyes of the one who sees right through you ~ Tom Robbins

Lying is as easy for some people as breathing. However, we will all lie at some point in our lives.  Just be aware of the enormous spiritual damage that occurs to us when we do.  Big, Tall, White or Small… they are all lies. The issue is not just the lying itself. We have to uncover the reason that forces us to lie to others and especially to ourselves.  This reason could be driven by angst or ego.  Another reason could be being someone else’s disappointment. That in itself is reason enough to try and recreate oneself! All this does is create dark and negative energy. If you want to progress spiritually, then you will need to work on your ego, fear, anger or perhaps even regret. Basically anything that is crippling your Spirit.

We should all be able to look into a mirror and be comfortable with the eyes of the one who sees right through us.  Like the seemingly perfect reflection of a Sunset on a Lake. The undercurrent has created a distortion in what would have been a perfect V formation of migratory birds.  Follow Your Truth. It is a hard journey, but your Energy will be stronger for it.

Even if no one else may discover the lie, we are our own witness always. It is soul damaging, and I’ll never understand those that actually come to believe their own lies

This is excellent, Grady, and somewhat synchronistic. Just last night I jotted down seven reasons why people lie, in the context of a family member who has been doing a lot of it lately. I was planning to create a blog post concerning them, but I’ll share with you if you like.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

I would love that.. I have long pondered on why people get to that point. Your thoughts would be most welcome.

That which we do to or for others we inflict upon or heal ourselves, sadly some have developed a habit of hurting themselves through deceit

… and yet they continue. I wonder sometimes whether it is deliberate or, whether they eventually find themselves so deep in their deceit they have no option but to continue …

Hi Grady. Though I haven’t written the post yet, this list is my preview. I think that in this family situation, a Grandma who believed in the “power of the white lie” taught her son to do so at an age too early for him to remember. He then unwittingly passed the information on to his daughter, who became an expert at chronic lying. Here’s my list:

      1. They’re trying to cover something up. Typical is when one makes it seem they’re being a victim in a certain situation had absolutely nothing to do with some poor choice they made (e.g., hanging around gang bangers and using crystal meth), and was solely the effect of some surprise ambush.

      2. They’re exaggerating the severity of a situation in which they were mistreated in order to deflect attention away from some poor choice of theirs, in hopes that no one will think to suspect that their own foolishness will have been involved.

      3. They’re minimizing something of which they are embarrassed or ashamed. An example would be saying “way back when” when the event actually occurred three or four months ago.

      4. They’re trying to sustain a positive false impression in the eyes of someone whom they don’t want to know the truth. An example would be saying they had a full time job with benefits when actually they were unemployed, or a perfectly happy relationship when actually it was on the rocks.

      5. They themselves are in denial. They inwardly don’t want to believe that things are as bad as they are, so they develop convenient, convincing falsehoods that most people will not question.

      6. They are story tellers. They like to create colorful stories, and often do so at the expense of truth. Such people are probably deeply dissatisfied with some aspect of reality, and feel they need to adjust it a bit in order to cope.

      7. Finally, they do not believe there is, or should be, an absolute truth. Their truth varies according to whoever they’re talking to, depending on what falsehood they think will best serve them. They thing everything is subjective, that the “only constant is change,” and thus they give themselves free reign to change all the time, so long as they can get away with it. Such people are usually extremely overconfident, and in a sense self-deifying. They overestimate their capacity to “create their own reality” at the expense of acknowledging the reality that’s actually happening. They will fly closer and closer to the sun like Icarus, until they finally crash and burn.

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and gives food for thought. Numbers 6 and 7 are excellent points. I agree, these people are highly intelligent and it is a shame that they use this gift to deceive others or, even worse in my opinion, to see it as a game and entertain themselves at others’ expense!

That is wonderful. With respect I feel that this is not a platform for personal conversation and for the most part, I am not one to chat online 🙂 I blog for enjoyment and seeing as I am on my own spiritual path, I sometimes like to share my photos and thoughts. I welcome comments pertaining to my blogs but am uncomfortable answering personal questions on a public platform. Thank you in advance for understanding.

Thanks so much, Julia! Yes, we are following each other but sometimes I find our blogs get lost in the Reader feeder. I have just gone back and followed you via email 🙂 I enjoy blogging as I have found the perfect recipe for me 🙂 I enjoy setting a quote with one of my photos and then I sit quietly and see what comes of it.
